its easier to read the flow of the complaint if you see the exchanges of the mail
Hi Paul I e-mailed Alun regarding an annoying person who causing
interference on WR and to tell him that he was very strong on the input
here in Trowbridge, as I was using a 35 year old handy (not very
sensitive) with a short rubber duck to monitor I suspect he may be
close and thought a little Dfing with the T&DARC might help.
I
inclose the reply from Alun he also wished to send it to you with a
request for you to post on the web page minus callsigns and names
however he lost the letter and asked me in a second e-mail to forward
my copy to you, hope that make sense David G6POW
Original letter
Dear David,
Sorry to hear you are having problems on 'WR
First let
me tell you that GB3WR has some very sophisticated carrier recognition
software (each carrier is as individual as a fingerprint) and copies of
the incidents are already with OfCom.
They are waiting to match the
carrier with a callsign. It is a funny fact that sometime in the near
future that person will transmit using his callsign. It's then he will
be confronted with the evidence and his equipment will be confiscated.
Here are the rules of GB3WR.
Do NOT, under ANY (and I mean ANY)
circumstances, transmit or respond in any way to his transmissions,
however much you may want to. YOU will be breaking the terms of YOUR
licence.
Simply announce to your contact that you are switching off
for a while and then do just that.
I understand how frustrating it can
be. That is what he wants. He wants to get you wound up. Do not give
him the satisfaction of knowing he's got you cross.
If it gets too bad
just announce that you are closing down and leave the repeater for a
while.
These people are of low intelligence and loose concentration
very quickly when starved of someone to annoy, and will go elsewhere
quickly.
Things you can do: Announce to your contact the above facts
about carrier recognition without referring to the idiot. The idiot may
not realise he is being recorded and the realisation may stop him
there.
The other thing you can do is to complain officially to OfCom.
The more complaints they get, the sooner they will act. They were very
helpful when we had this trouble before and one former user (abuser)
now has no equipment to cause problems with and it cost him several
hundred pounds in fines and his licence suspended.
You touched on
another way of stopping it. DF,ing him can be great fun! The method is
to wait until all your DF'ers is in position and then goad him into
operation for as long as possible. This is the only time you
acknowledge his presence with something like “Sounds like our Iq0 is
back"
This will encourage him to transmit and Hey Presto! You've got
him.
I used this method to detect the former Amateur who now has a
criminal record!
The "Golden Rule” is when you have his address and
identity; you turn over that information to OfCom. YOU DO NOT ACT ON
THAT INFORMATION by going round with a baseball bat and threatening
Violence. YOU will be the one in big trouble.
Finally, can I say that
over the years we have had many Iq0's and ALL of them have been brought
to book. Perhaps not immediately but it will happen if they continue to
disrupt the repeater.
I shall be publishing this communication (without
names) and my reply on the website as an example. Best for
now Alun G0TJP
keeper of
GB3WR.
