Regular users of 'WR will know that that there is an intermittent fault on the through audio. Altho I
can alter all the perameters over the air. It is not possible to mend faults this way and a site visit is
needed. Herein lies the problem.
About 18 months ago the site we have occupied for the last ten years occupy was sold by Avon & Somerset Police to a private
company known as "Wirelessinfrastructure Group" They specialise in buying hilltop sites from various
sources. I arrived one afternoon for some routine maintainance to find that our padlock had been
removed and replaced with a robust combination padlock on both the gate and the transmitter hall.
I have made good contact with people in their Bristol and Swindon offices and so found out that they
get many "pirate" users of their masts and they just needed to know who we were. I explained and
they seem happy for us to stay on site.
They have introduced a system of booking site access on their website and I am now on that system
altho' I had to start up a new e-mail address as they don't accept personal addresses i.e. Yahoo, Hotmail etc
so I registered alun@mendiprepeatergroup.com (more expense!).
I applied for site access but all I got was a bunch of automatic responses saying "so & so" was away from the office" etc etc
So as I write (13-8-10) I'm hopeing to get the combinations and have free site access again but as we are on site
thanks to their good will, I don't wat to push things too hard. However the audio has to be repaired
and as soon as I can get access, it will be done. Long term users of 'WR will know that I'm usually on
top of a problem as soon as it arises but this time it's out of my hands.
I must ask for you patience, and just because nothing seems to be being done, doesn't mean
that is the case.
I can shut the repeater down without a site visit but have not done so because people are still communicating
through it, albeit with difficulty sometimes. There is no interfereance to any other services as the carrier is
still fully stable and very free from spuri, only the audio is the problem.
I have heard one or two ill-informed comments as usual so please can I ask that you make sure your
donations are up to date BEFORE critisising the repeater as you may offend those who have generously
donated their money and time to keep 'WR on the air.
On behalf of the secratery and the treasurer and myself, the keeper, I wish you all 73 .
